TERRAGIUSTA

TERRAGIUSTA ENGLISH SCRIPT

In the winter of 2016/2017 on behalf of Echis – Incroci di Suoni, and together with the radio producer Nerina Schiavo, I joined the NGO Medici per i Diritti Umani within the Terragiusta project. A project that aims to provide health assistance and legal information to migrant workers employed in the harvest of oranges and clementines in the Gioia Tauro Plain.
Through interviews with landowners and seasonal workers, cooperatives and mayors we have attempted to reconstruct the chain of exploitation that every winter casts a shadow on the Calabrian citrus harvest.
It is this reality that we narrate in the Terragiusta sound map, a journey that will take you to the places of harvest, among the rows of orange trees full of fruit and inside the ghettos where the migrants workers finally rest at the end of the day.
